More than 50 protesters associated with Occupy Miami assembled outside the Miami International Art Institute last weekend to protest. According to the Miami Herald, the “small but boisterous crowd,” consisting mostly of students from local colleges, were speaking out against unfair student loan and recruitment practices by the school's parent company, Education Management Corp., which is partly owned by Goldman Sachs. The Herald reports that Education Management is currently facing lawsuits brought against the business by former employees who claim that they violated the federal government's ban on paying commission to recruiters to enroll students. Kevin Young, a 27-year-old protester from Midtown Miami, summed up the protesters’ sentiments: "We don't believe any of us should be slaves to Goldman.” | | | | Protesters outside the Miami Art Institute on November 6.
