Miroslaw Balka’s work is intimate and self-reflective, exploring personal memory within the context of historical memory, while using deliberately limited means. Balka’s works are never merely representational, in general they comprise groups of objects arranged in a more than purely formal way, to suggest functional, symbolic or lived-in spaces. These include places in which we fi nd traces of human activities carried out in privacy.
