OMER FAST
| Jerusalem, 1972. Lives and works in Berlin and New York. I left Israel at the age of 12 and have lived in different places since. If I round my age down to 36 it would make me exactly one-third Israeli by year count. But I’m actually 37, which is a prime number and I’ve never felt comfortable with national labels. Fortunately, there’s another Omer Fast who lives in Israel. As far as I could tell from his Facebook page, he’s young and athletic, has lots of friends and no delusions of being an artist. Even better, he’s indisputably Israeli. And so, when Flash Art asked me to participate in their Focus on Israel, instead of boring everybody with my unresolved identity issues, I simply referred them to someone who would give a straight answer: Omer Fast.
