GABRIELE PICCO

Brescia, Italy, 1974. Lives and works in New York.

In his recent works, Gabriele Picco is dedicated mostly to sculpture, keeping the freshness and simplicity typical of his pen drawings and some assemblages of the ’90s. It doesn’t mean that the drawings now become sculptures, but that these sculptures are born with the same quickness of a pen stroke, assembling the most disparate objects, from a shoe to a pear to an ethnic sculpture, with the nonchalance and the shamelessness of a child. Entering his atelier you run across a crazed jungle where tigers appear from ostrich eggs, chip pillars thrust towards the sky mixing fast food with Brancusi. (Gallery’s statement)
