Athanasios Argianas’s practice is replete with cultural inferences, ranging from Apollinaire and ’30s musical instruments to folk music. Concern with how we notate information lies at the center of his translations — from language into sculpture, music to weight/lightness. These transformations, although sometimes informed by scientifi c models, are intuitive and invent their own function between the empirical and the subjective. (Gallery statement)
