21.05.2012 Coincing with the opening of her solo show at Margate's Turner Contemporary next weekend, Tracey Emin is launching a new design of the London underground map. 18 million of them will be distributed during the Olympics. The drawing offers a psychogeographic reading of the city's network, based not on its physical reality but on the artist's mental space. There is also something fragile, and intimate about the design. "When people look at the Tube map I want them to smile and feel reassured," Emin stated. She is the 16th artist invited to design a cover for the London underground; she follows the likes of Yayoi Kusama, David Shrigley, and Jeremy Deller. The original drawing is on display at "Mind the Map: Inspiring Art, Design and Cartography," May 18 – October 28, 2012, London Transport Museum , London.
