Trentino - Italy
Manifesta 7 reveals its artists

Manifesta 7, the European Biennial of Contemporary that will be hosted in the Trentino – South Tyrol region in Italy from July 19 to November 2 this year, has released more information about the event and the participating artists.

Taking shape over four cities, which run along the Brenner axis between the north and south of Europe, Manifesta will occupy the Fortezza (Bressanone), the ex-Alumix factory in Bolzano, the Palazzo delle Poste in Trento, and the Manifattura Tabacchi and ex-Peterlini factory in Rovereto. It will present 188 artists from around the world, 32 of which are Italian.

Adam Budak, will curate “Principle Hope” between the 20th century ex-Peterlini industrial building and the 19th century Manifattura Tabacchi in Rovereto. The exhibition is focused on mapping and analyzing the cultural and political ecology of space and its public-ness, through the notion of “critical regionalism” (by the architectural theorist Kenneth Frampton).

The collective is interested in thinking about what happens when things are rendered as valuable in this world. It is an attempt to come to terms with the self-fulfilling amnesia of Capitalism, and to see what can be salvaged from the oblivion to which the residues of Modernism are normally consigned.
