Kusama fever hits New York

10.07.2012

New York will be covered in spots in the next few days. The retrospective of Yayoi Kusama opens on July 12 at the Whitney Museum, after iterations at the Centre Pompidou and the Tate Modern. Further, Louis Vuitton is releasing its collaboration with the artist with a pop-up shop on the very same day. “Marc Jacobs’s sincere attitude towards art is the same as my own,” Yayoi Kusama told the Cut
. “I respect him as a wonderful designer. Louis Vuitton understands and appreciates the nature of my art. Therefore there isn’t much difference from my process of making fashion.” The Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton collection is the first collaboration with the the French fashion house since 2008, when it revisited its 2001 Stephen Sprouse graffiti-covered line.

Yayoi Kusama at the Whitney Museum of American Art runs from July 12 through September 30.
