Moscow
Glitzy opening for Abramovich’s Center for Contemporary Culture Moscow

Tonight in Moscow the Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, together with his young fiancée Darja Zhukova, — who is keen on contemporary art — will open the doors of CCC (Center for Contemporary Culture Moscow), to a select jet-set group. For the occasion the singer Amy Winehouse will perform and receive the dizzy sum of one million pounds for her efforts. Winehouse will be entertaining the likes of Tate director Nicholas Serota, Hermitage Museum director Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky, and Larry Gagosian — as well as some representatives of the beau-monde like prince and princess the of Munich Andrea and Charlotte, and the friends of the center’s director Darja, Paris Hilton and Polina Deripaska, wife of the Aljuminprodukt’s founder.

The CCC space, an 8 thousand square-meter area without internal pilasters and turned into a gallery thanks to the work of the London-based architect Jamie Fobert, was originally an old bus depot  — Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage — realized by the constructivist Konstantin Melnikov in 1927. Zhukova's team involves prestigious names of specialists like the ex-manager of the London's Gagosian, Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, to whom the Chelsea owner has committed the fund-raising program. The opening for the general public will be in September with a great retrospective of the Ukrainian artist Ilya Kabakov.
